Regional Director on “Political Campaign Finance: Safeguarding Electoral Integrity in Africa"
As part of its annual report, the Wilson Center Africa Program asked IFES Regional Director for Africa Rushdi Nackerdien to contribute an essay on campaign finance. His piece, “Political Campaign Finance: Safeguarding Electoral Integrity in Africa,” examined the role of election management bodies in fostering accountability and transparency.

The purpose of this report is to give a brief analysis of the Law on Political Financing which was published in the “Official Gazette of the Republic of Serbia” on 14 June 2011. Political Finance in Post-Conflict Societies
This study of political finance in post-conflict society identifies lessons learned from international donor-funded efforts to support political processes in post-conflict environments in general and the funding of political parties and campaign finance in particular. The document consists of eight case studies that seek to improve our understanding not only of the political dynamics of post-conflict situations but also of how to rally international support for holding elections and supporting democratization under such circumstances.

“Campagne nationale d’education electorale” is a pamphlet from May 2005, available in French, which educates readers about their right and responsibility to vote. The document, published with the help of IFES, prepares citizens for the 2005 Presidential Election in Guinea where they are strongly encouraged to vote. Additionally, the pamphlet provides information about voter registration and what to look for in a candidate.

Money in Politics: A Study of Party Financing Practices in 22 Countries
The Africa Political Party Finance Initiative is one of the first attempts to understand and evaluate the challenges of political party financing in Africa. Undertaken by the National Democratic Institute for International Affairs (NDI), APPFI examines party finance practices in 22 emerging democracies worldwide. Conducted between July 2003 and September 2004, APPFI includes desk research and field interviews of 440 political, party, and civic leaders; the resulting report yields a better understanding of the underpinnings of problems related to party financing and corruption, both in Africa and around the globe.
