CEDAW Anniversary: Mainstreaming Women's Engagement in Iraq
As with most of the countries in the Middle East, Iraq is a religiously conservative and patriarchal society. Women in Iraq are affected by exclusion from different levels of decision-making roles in their communities due to societal traditions and norms. UPDATED: Sierra Leone’s Peaceful Election Is Another Step Forward
On Saturday, November 17, Sierra Leone held the country’s third presidential election since the decade-long civil war came to an end in 2002. The November 17 poll was also the first election that the National Electoral Commission (NEC) has taken a primary role in organizing and executing. Electoral Technical Assistance for Iraq for Out of Country Voting
At the request of Iraq’s Independent High Electoral Commission (IHEC) and with funding from the United States Agency for International Development (USAID), IFES is assisting the Commission in the implementation of its Out of Country Voting program (OCV) for the 2010 parliamentary elections. Iraqi citizens abroad will be able to a cast a ballot for candidates at the governorate level with proof of Iraqi citizenship, age and connection to one of Iraq’s 18 governorates.
