Advancing Disability Rights in Southeast Asia through Regional Network of Advocates
In 2011, IFES established the General Election Network for Disability Access (AGENDA) across Southeast Asia. A creative partnership between disabled persons’ organizations (DPOs) and election-focused civil society organizations, AGENDA serves as a forum to improve access to political and electoral opportunities for persons with disabilities by increasing public awareness and elevating advocacy efforts that call for change.

Women’s Election and Leadership Training Program
The International Foundation for Electoral Systems (IFES) has implemented the Women’s Election and Leadership Program in several countries to develop the capacity of women to participate in the election process as election officials and to develop leadership skills among women. These programs provide a blend of technical knowledge and soft skills to enable trainees to effectively use the knowledge and skills gained in electoral roles.

Elections in Cambodia See Major Parties Merge, Compete for Votes
On Sunday, July 28 Cambodians cast ballots for 123 members of the National Assembly. This race saw the merger of two major opposition parties, the Sam Rainsy Party and the Human Rights Party, into the Cambodia National Rescue Party. This new, larger party was led by Sam Rainsy, a self-exiled leader who recently returned to Cambodia after receiving a Royal Pardon for various convictions. Robert Patterson, IFES Chief of Party in Cambodia, answers some questions about Election Day.

A Week in Cambodia
IFES’ Women’s Leadership program, conducted in five provinces across Cambodia the spring of 2011, sought to increase women’s personal development and leadership skills and knowledge of the election process. During the week of 14-21 September, some of the participants joined IFES staff in Phnom Penh and Siem Reap to discuss what they have learned. This week coincided with the Pchum Ben festival, during which Cambodians pay their respect to deceased relatives, and the 2011 voter registration period, which IFES witnessed. “Elections Step by Step” is a voter guide issued in 2000 by CENTRAS and IFES, available in Romanian, and meant to serve as an informative document about the Romanian electoral system, specifically to provide information regarding the Presidential Election of 2000 in Romania. The guide is mostly intended to be of use for the electoral bodies overseeing the electoral process and to provide basic guidance on the main ways of functioning during the entire electoral process. The guide focuses on the structure and functioning of the Electoral Bureaus, the Electoral Commissions and the accredited observers, giving brief explanations on their tasks and responsibilities. Additionally, it contains samples of required documents prior and during the elections, as well as the text of the Law regarding the election of the Senate and the Chamber of deputies and the Law regarding the election of the President of Romania, with its recent changes to that date.

Crezi Ca Votul Tau nu Conteaza
“Do You Think Your Vote does not count?” is a voter brochure developed in 1996, available in both Romanian and English, by the Pro Democracy Association in lead up to the June 2, 1996 Local Elections in Romania and intended to stimulate people to exercise their right to vote. The brochure contains a description of the local offices to be elected by the voters: the Mayor, the Local Council, and the Regional Council. Additionally, it contains information about voting instructions and voter registration as well as it includes a list of the irregularities that could be detected during the voting process and how to deal with them when needed.
