Campagne Presidentielle: Evaluation Pre-Electorale, juin 1993
This report summarizes IFES efforts in Gabonese presidential elections, held in December 1993. The report stresses the importance of this election because it was one of the first transitions on the African continent and the report discusses both the role of the Government in Gabon and the political parties running for election. Lastly, the report provides suggestions for the structure, administration and electoral code.

Mon livret d'education civique: 3eme
“Mon livret d’education civique: 3eme” is a civic education manual from 1995, available in French, which teaches students about the Constitution, the hierarchy of government, elections, and the justice system in Gabon. The document, published by the National Pedagogical Institute of Gabon, is aimed at students who are preparing to take the ‘Brevet des Colleges’ exam (taken at the end of 9th grade) and contains quizzes, questions and games on different civic education subjects.

IFES Launches Project to Empower Women in the Middle East
The Status of Women in the Middle East and North Africa (SWMENA), a project to improve the legal, political and social standing of women, is underway. IFES, the Institute of Women’s Policy Research (IWPR) and the Canadian Parliamentary Center (CPC), the partners in this endeavor, hope that the project will remove some of the roadblocks to women’s self-empowerment in the region.

The Status of the Women in the Middle East and North Africa: A Grassroots Research and Advocacy Approach Preliminary Findings from Surveys in Lebanon and Morocco
Last week at the annual World Association for Public Opinion Research Conference, Rola Abdul-Latif and Lauren Serpe of IFES’ Applied Research Center presented their paper, "The Status of the Women in the Middle East and North Africa: A Grassroots Research and Advocacy Approach." The paper highlights comparative data from surveys in Lebanon and Morocco conducted under IFES’ SWMENA project, funded by the Canadian International Development.

Focus on Morocco | Freedom of Movement, & Freedom from Harassment & Violence Topic Brief
This topic brief presents key findings from the SWMENA survey in Morocco. One portion of the survey examined the extent to which women enjoyed freedom of movement without pressures from family or society, attitudes towards violence against women, and the degree to which domestic violence is tolerated or rejected by society.
