Truth Talk
This is the November 1996 edition of South Africa’s “Truth Talk,” a publication of the country’s Truth and Reconciliation Commission. The magazine focuses on reparations for civil rights violations of the past and includes a piece by Arch Bishop Desmond Tutu, the Commission’s chairperson. There is also a section on individuals’ reactions to the work of the Commission. A second topic of this magazine was the granting of amnesty to South African’s who had perpetrated human rights violations while under orders. This piece was published two years after the 1994 elections in South Africa, the first to feature universal adult suffrage.

“Citizenship and Democracy” is a training manual published in 1997 by the Institute for Democracy in South Africa (IDSA). The manual provides a guide for lesson plans that educators can use to teach about citizens' rights, the South African bill of rights, and how citizens can play a role in their own democracy.

Electoral Act
Published on October 14, 1998, the complete legislation of Electoral Act 73 is provided for the South African public. This national act outlines in detail all rules and regulations regarding voter registration and candidate and political party registration, defines the electoral structure, explains governmental appointments, and provides an electoral code of conduct. This publication was designed by Rushdi Nackderian and was provided in order to educate the South African public of the system of voting and elections in their country.

This pamphlet entitled “Ensuring Free and Fair Elections” was published by the Independent Electoral Commission (IEC) in 1999 prior to the June 2nd, 1999 South African general elections. This pamphlet provides an illustrated description of the voting procedure as well as important dates, contact information for voting stations, and voter registration guidelines for South African voters.

The Power of your vote
“The Power of your vote” was published in 1999 on the eve of the South African national elections. This Independent Electoral Commission publication urged the South African electorate to continue strengthening the democratic process by voting. Graphic illustrations, including comic strips, were used to augment voter efficacy and overall democratic awearness.
