“The Volunteer’s Notebook” is a volunteer guidebook, available in Spanish, believed to be issued in the late 1980s in Chile in lead up to the September 25, 1988 National Chilean Plebiscite. The guidebook is meant to provide guidance to volunteers who wish to spread information on democracy and inspire participation by illustrating the necessity of building a truly democratic Chilean society. The guidebook is meant to stimulate citizens to become involved in learning and spreading the democratic values throughout the Chilean society, it teaches them about the attributes of democracy and the benefits of having a democratic society rather than a dictatorship or autocratic system. It provides information on voter registration in order to stimulate voters’ presence at the polling stations. Additionally, the guide provides background information on the National Chilean Plebiscite, and what it means to vote “yes” or “no.”
