Ghana experiments with civic education
“Ghana Experiments with Civic Education” is an article by Fred Hayward featured in Africa Report in the May 1971 edition. Hayward discusses the origins of the Center for Civic Education and stresses its importance to Ghana’s commitment to just government. “A Guide to the Candidate,” published in 1992 by the Interim National Electoral Commission before the 1992 Presidential and Parliamentary Elections in Ghana serves as a guide to candidates seeking elections in that year. The guide is divided into four parts with the first two discussing qualifications and eligibility for becoming President or a member of parliament while the latter two focus on general information and a summary of election offences respectively.

A Guide to the Voter
In preparation for the November 3rd, 1992 Presidential Elections and the December 8th, 1992 Parliamentary elections in Ghana, the Interim National Commission published “A Guide to the Voter.” This guide provided Ghanaian citizens with complete voter registration information, further information on the election process and an overview of election workers. The purpose of this guide is to educate the public and contribute towards a peaceful, free, and fair election.

Kofi & Ama Learn about Voter Registration
In order to educate and encourage the Ghanaian public, the Electoral Commission of Ghana produced this comic strip in 1995, a year before the national elections. Aimed directly at the youth population, this comic strip provides information regarding the new registration process, voting rules and qualifications, and other facets of basic electoral knowledge. “Programme d’Education Civique” is a report created by GERDDES – Cote d’Ivoire, available in French, which explains what the electoral system should be in the Ivory Coast. This civic education document, published in 1995, outlines the importance of the constitution, breaks down the different levels of the government, explains the rights of a citizen – particularly the right to vote – and briefly explains how elections happen.

Voters Registry Revision and Elections Preparation: A Technical Assessment
This report concerns IFES efforts at voter registration in the Ivory Coast in 1994 for the national elections scheduled for 1995. The report includes notes from meetings with political parties, civic groups, government administrators, diplomatic corps and NGOs. The report discusses four major concern areas for the 1995 elections: lack of openness among the government, lack of participation in the revision process by opposition parties, the seamless relationship between the leading political party and the Ivoirian government and lastly, the vague laws regulating the electoral system in the Ivory Coast.
