Voter Education in Kosovo
IFES organized a massive public information campaign to educate Kosovo voters about recent changes to their electoral system and voting procedures. On election day, voters cast their ballots in less than half the time that election authorities predicted.

Kosovo Motivational Water Serbian Spot
The general theme of the campaign was where were you when the decision was made and showed how your life is impacted when you fail to participate in the process. Serbian voters expressed a great deal of concern about many areas but since this was a municipal election we chose to focus on the provision of utilities as a theme with a broad gender appeal.

Kosovo Motivational Diploma Spot
The general theme of the campaign was where were you when the decision was made and showed how your life is impacted when you fail to participate in the process. Since employment is considered a primary concern and corruption a major but lesser concern we designed a spot that used employment as its major theme and directed the piece towards a target audience of young male voters. The spot also showed how corruption influences your ability to find employment and undermines normal avenues of self improvement such as education.

IFES President and CEO On Technology in Elections
In August, the Instituto Federal Electoral (IFE), the Mexican elections commission, hosted a four-day conference to explore key electoral topics, including challenges in the administration and organization of elections; political and media rights in elections; and access to electoral justice. The conference brought together election experts, practitioners and academics from all over the world as well as government officials. The event took place in Morelia, Mexico.

Kosovo Civic Education Campaign
In the fall of 2012, IFES collaborated with six local partners in Kosovo to launch “Participate,” a civic education campaign aimed at increasing public awareness on democratic values. This includes independent voting; the role of women, youth and minority groups in election processes; roles and responsibilities of election management bodies; and electoral complaints. The campaign reached 33,883 voters through face-to-face activities; distributed 87,482 informational brochures, pamphlets and other printed material; and reached over 600,000 Kosovars through TV and radio programs, as well as newspaper articles. IFES marked its’ annual Charles T. Manatt Democracy Awards with a gala dinner ceremony at the Grand Hyatt Washington in Washington, D.C., on September 24. This award underscores IFES’ belief that advancing good governance and democratic rights begins with empowerment of and active participation from citizens.
