Maricopa County, Ariz. Selects a Voting System


This is an article from 1971 that was published on the voting system of Maricopa County, Arizona.  The Article was written in response to the long lines voters were forced to wait in during the 1968 general elections.  The piece introduces the new “Votomatic” machine that will be used in upcoming elections and will speed up the election process and be less expensive than the previous “lever machines.”

Official Voters Pamphlet


The “Official Voters Pamphlet,” published on November 2, 1972 by Washington Secretary of State A. Ludlow Kramer outlines 24 Acts and Referendums regarding changes to the state constitution, local legislative changes, and other proposed changes in that year. The purpose of this pamphlet is to better educate the voters as to the state measures importance. “Official Voters Pamphlet” is printed in both English and Spanish.

California Voters Pamphlet - Primary Election


This edition of the “California Voters Pamphlet,” published in 1974, contains detailed summaries of the nine propositions up for vote in California’s June 4, 1974 primary elections.  The booklet breaks down each proposition and provides their official title, legislative analysis, the actual text and argument. The propositions cover topics such as state civil service exemptions, the clean water bond act and political reform.  The booklet also includes chapters on the role of lobbyists, limits on expenditures, incumbency and auditing.

Official Voters Pamphlet



Washington Secretary of State A. Ludlow Kramer’s November 5th, 1974 publication of the “Official Voters Pamphlet” provides Washington residents with biographies of candidates running for Senator, Representative, State Supreme Court, and other local officials as well as a checklist of these candidates. The pamphlet also contains information on three state measures on the 1974 Washington Ballot including explanations, statements for and against, rebuttal statements and full texts of proposed and existing legislature.

Tennessee goes "Votomatic"


“Tennessee goes “Votomatic” is a report produced in 1974 and addressed to the Tennessee County Election Commissioners by the Computer Election Systems, after the introduction of the Votomatic Vote Recorder. The report covers the statistics of the November Elections, news articles from the elections and the recount, and an extremely important report from the Registrar-at-Large of Hamilton County. Additionally the report presents a description of the new voter computer system and a comparison between it and the old voting procedures.
