Internet Voting: Past, Present and Future

Ben Goldsmith, Election Technology Adviser and former IFES Chief of Party in Kosovo and Pakistan, has helped and advised a number of countries, most recently Norway, in implementing election technology. Back in Haiti, Back at Home
IFES Chief of Party in Haiti Alessandra Rossi has over a decade of experience in electoral assistance projects. She recently served in Libya, where she supported the implementation of a voter education initiative targeting women, youth, voters with disabilities and rural communities in the eastern part of the country for the 2012 National Congress Elections with the United Nations Electoral Support Team in Libya. As she return to Haiti for the third time, she talks to us about the new program, and how it feels to be back in a country she says is like home.

Becoming an Inclusion Advocate: A Q&A with Anais Keenon
Anais Keenon, who is currently pursuing a master’s degree in international development from Gallaudet University, is on her way to becoming a leader in the international disability inclusion movement. A native of Wilsonville, Oregon, she spent the summer working with IFES’ Inclusion Officer Virginia Atkinson analyzing the legal frameworks of countries around the world to see how they perform in recognizing the rights of persons with disabilities. She answers some questions on how laws help promote equal access, what it really means to be inclusive and what people can do to better foster awareness.

Elections in Cambodia See Major Parties Merge, Compete for Votes
On Sunday, July 28 Cambodians cast ballots for 123 members of the National Assembly. This race saw the merger of two major opposition parties, the Sam Rainsy Party and the Human Rights Party, into the Cambodia National Rescue Party. This new, larger party was led by Sam Rainsy, a self-exiled leader who recently returned to Cambodia after receiving a Royal Pardon for various convictions. Witnessing Pakistan’s Historic Election
Pakistan held general elections on May 11, 2013, marking the first time in the nation's history that a civilian government has carried out the full length of its term and handed power to another civilian government. A number of improvements were made ahead of the election to ensure a more credible and transparent poll. This included updating the voter list, increasing the number of polling stations and expanding communication with the public. A Snapshot of the 2013 Midterm Elections in the Philippines
The Philippines held midterm elections on May 13, 2013. These polls marked the second time a nationwide automated election system was used. In addition to fine-tuning the technology used during the election, the Philippine Commission on Elections (COMELEC) also implemented a continuous voter registration process and a general registration in the Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao. IFES Chief of Party in the Philippines Beverly Hagerdon Thakur answers some questions on Election Day.
