Approximately 30 million people are eligible to vote in this upcoming election, and, for many of them, this will be their first time voting. IFES Supports Efforts to Promote Women’s Engagement in Elections in Myanmar
In Myanmar, there is a significant gap between men and women’s engagement in elections, politics and governance. There is much work to be done to ensure gender equality in the electoral process. The Union Election Commission of Myanmar (UEC), with support from the International Foundation for Electoral Systems (IFES) is working on a number of initiatives to better incorporate women into the process.

Myanmar’s First National Post-Election Conference
On February 29 and March 1, 2016, the Union Election Commission (UEC) hosted the first-ever National Post-Election Conference in Yangon. With support from IFES and International IDEA, the UEC organized the conference to assess the administration of the historic 2015 elections and develop recommendations for future reform.
