Iraqi Out-of-Country Voting in Washington
Out-of-country voting for the Iraqi election began on March 5, 2010 in 16 countries around the world. The Iraqi ambassador to the U.S., Senator Richard Lugar (R-IN)—an IFES board member, and IFES President and CEO Bill Sweeney visited the polling station in Washington, DC. It is estimated that at least 2,500 Iraqis will vote at the DC polling station.

Lebanon 2010 Election Preparation
On 9th May 2010 Lebanon held elections across the muhafaza of Bekaa and Beirut. IFES worked with Ministry of Interior and Municipalities to ensure all electoral staff had uniforms, accreditation badges, polling manuals and displayed informational posters.

Iraq has undergone dramatic change in the past decade. The U.S.-led war in Iraq that began in 2003, and the subsequent de-Ba’athification process led by the Coalition Provisional Authority, spike in sectarianism, advancement by the Islamic State (IS) and push by the Kurds for independence, all continue to impact the country’s political and security environment.
