CEDAW Anniversary: Helping Women Lead in the Democratic Republic of the Congo
The Democratic Republic of the Congo has ratified a number of international conventions on the protection of women and ending discrimination against them. But it is clear there is a gap between what the international standards maintain and how they are applied in this country. CEDAW Anniversary: Making Women's Equality a Reality in the Democratic Republic of the Congo
Although the constitution of the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC) makes provisions for parity between men and women with a view to fair and equitable participation in the management of the city (Mbuji-Mayi), this participation remains only theoretical, despite the country’s ratification of treaties on the elimination of all forms of discrimination against women. IFES Launches Innovative Civic Education Program in the Democratic Republic of Congo
USAID recently awarded IFES a $5.2 million contract to conduct a 2‐year civic education program in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC). The program is designed to help fulfill the Congolese government’s commitment to a process of decentralization to reverse the country’s legacy of poor governance, corruption, and geographic inequality by bringing greater accountability and inclusion at the local level.

Women’s Election and Leadership Training Program
The International Foundation for Electoral Systems (IFES) has implemented the Women’s Election and Leadership Program in several countries to develop the capacity of women to participate in the election process as election officials and to develop leadership skills among women. IFES Trains Indonesian Regional Election Administrators on Disability Rights
IFES, the lead partner in the General Network for Disability Access (AGENDA), piloted a disability rights and elections module of the Building Resources in Democracy, Governance, and Elections curriculum in Bogor, Indonesia from April 6-7, 2016. Participants discussed disability inclusion throughout the election cycle with regional Commissioners.

IFES President Visits Medan, Indonesia, to Support Women’s Leadership Program
Following Indonesia’s July 9 presidential election, IFES President and CEO Bill Sweeney travelled to Medan in North Sumatra to meet with some of the participants of IFES’ women’s leadership program. The program, implemented in partnership with the Center for Political Studies, Department of Political Science (Puskapol) at the University of Indonesia, aims to address the lack of representation in the field of electoral administration in Indonesia and prepare women to serve in different positions in electoral administration.

Indonesia Presidential Election Visit Program
On July 9, 2014, as part of the IFES Indonesia Presidential Election Visit Program, IFES Indonesia Program Officer Marti Yusnida and I visited Rutan Pondok Women’s Prison in Jakarta with a group of female diplomats.
