Starting on Friday, October 2, Czech voters will go to the polls to vote for one-third of the Senate and members of regional councils. Their largest concern is their safe participation on Election Day and the government’s overall response to the COVID-19 pandemic. The senate elections may result in a shakeup – either from the governing party receiving a majority of seats or the opposition coalition increasing its majority.

To help you understand this important electoral process, the International Foundation for Electoral Systems (IFES) provides Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs) on Elections in the Czech Republic: 2020 Senate and Municipal Elections. IFES FAQs include:

  • What is the electoral system?
  • What provisions are in place to guarantee equal access to the electoral process for women and persons with disabilities?
  • What is the election management body doing to safeguard the elections and voters during the COVID-19 pandemic?
  • When will official results be announced?
