Increasing Election Access for Saskatchewan Citizens with Disabilities
Saskatchewan, a large prairie province in central Canada, is home to more than 180,000 persons with disabilities. Elections Saskatchewan – which is responsible for managing the province’s elections – used feedback from disability rights organizations, the International Foundation for Electoral Systems (IFES) and the Johnson-Shoyama Graduate School of Public Policy to improve election accessibility for voters with disabilities in the province’s 28th general election, which occurred on April 4, 2016.

Spending Limits as a Policy Option
Citizens in many countries are upset because they believe the current financing of politics (which involves corruption and under-the-table deals) is violating the basic democratic values of equal opportunity, transparency and accountability. One way to bring the funding of political parties and candidates into line with these values is to regulate campaign expenditures through spending limits. This is a viable option, but such limits must be designed and implemented with care.

“Accessible Facilities: How to Make Voting more Accessible” is a guide from 1996, available in a French and English copy, meant to help election officials make the polling sites more accessible to handicapped voters so they may vote in the upcoming Federal Elections. The document, published by Elections Canada, gives advice on how to make the sites more accessible by setting up ramps, special parking and adapted doors and entrances. Voter Awareness Guide
The 1996 “Voter Awareness Guide” is written to inform voter educators on procedures they will have to undertake before the upcoming 1996 Presidential and Parliamentary elections in December. Instructions include details on the Voter Educator Outreach Programme, timelines and requirements of presentations on the importance of voting and the meaning of political posters. Pre-Election Technical Assistance Mission, Chad, 1 - 24 November 1995
This report summarizes the pre-election technical assistance provided by IFES in Chad prior to elections in 1996. The report summarizes the on-the-spot assistance provided by IFES, the development of an electoral calendar and efforts devoted to voter registration. The report also includes a list of problems with the planned elections ranging from political and institutional problems to questions about security. The report concludes with recommendations for elections in Chad. Included with the report are several documents concerning electoral law, regulations and the constitution of Chad.

“Voters’ Registration News” is a special feature published by the Electoral Commission of Ghana in September 1995 in preparation for the 1996 presidential and parliamentary elections. This article explains the new registration process and provides general election and voting information including an illustrated step-by-step process of the new voter registration. This article was funded by Supporting the Electoral Process (STEP) with a grant from USAID and IFES.
