IFES Congratulates Pakistan on Historic Transfer of Power
The International Foundation for Electoral Systems (IFES) congratulates Pakistan on its first transfer of power between two democratically elected civilian governments after completion of a full term. Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif and newly-elected members of the National Assembly were sworn in on June 1, 2013. Sharif officially takes office today, June 5, 2013.

Despite incidents of violence ahead of and on Election Day, the overall mood in the country was very positive. At 60 percent, turnout was higher than in previous elections. This paper deals with the role of money in politics, and in particular with certain efforts by countries around the world to regulate this role. In the current world (and probably since we first started organising ourselves politically), money in politics or political finance as we commonly know it is a central aspect of any political system, whether democratic or undemocratic, "developed" or "developing" and regardless of political culture or tradition.

Developing a New BRIDGE Module on Political Finance
On May 18 – 19, 2009, IFES and International Institute for Democracy and Electoral Assistance co-hosted a working group of political finance and BRIDGE experts to begin the development process for a new BRIDGE module on political finance. BRIDGE is a comprehensive curriculum on electoral processes. The gathering was held in Stockholm.
