Emergency Powers and the COVID-19 Pandemic: Protecting Democratic Guardrails
Without a strong foundation for democratic resilience, a global health crisis can shock democratic institutions and offer a blank check to governments to use emergency powers to curtail political rights. Making Every Vote Count
“Making Every Vote Count” is the final report by the Citizens Assembly on Electoral Reform which outlines the case for electoral reform in British Columbia, Canada. The document, published in 2004, makes the recommendation for a new voting system, called BC-STV, to be used in electing member of the Legislative Assembly. The report gives its reasons for the recommendation and explains the new voting system.

Cambodia Electoral Assistance Project 1996-98 Final Report
This report discusses IFES’ efforts working with the Cambodian Government to strengthen and improve the electoral framework in preparation for the July 1998 parliamentary elections. IFES provided on-site technical expertise and drafted election laws and regulations, prepared an election calendar and budget, designed a voter registration system, initiated recruiting and training programs for election officials and pollworkers and procured and distributed election supplies and equipment.

The piece contains sections on the “evolution of the federal vote,” “elections in Canada” and why Canadians should vote. The primary objective of the booklet, published by the Chief Electoral Officer of Canada, is to provide readers a more informed perspective on Canada’s electoral process and history. There is also a French version of the booklet provided.
