Regional Director on “The Elections We Want” in Africa
As part of its annual report, the Wilson Center Africa Program asked IFES Regional Director for Africa Rushdi Nackerdien to contribute an essay on recent African elections. His piece, “The Elections We Want,” covered 2017 elections in Angola, Rwanda, Liberia, Senegal, the Gambia, and Kenya, and their implications for election practitioners moving forward.

Congo: 1995 Technical Assessment
This report was completed as a technical assessment of the electoral system in the Republic of Congo in 1995 in preparation for the presidential elections held in 1997. The report is broken into three parts; Congolese Society and Democratic Transition, Administration of Voter Registration and Elections and Citizen Identification, Census Activities and Voter Registration.

This report summarizes IFES findings regarding the prospects for free and fair elections in the Congo. The report, published in 1992 assesses the Congolese electoral system and advances its recommendations for upcoming elections. The report discusses the strengths and weaknesses in electoral institutions ranging from procedural problems and elections dates to absentee voting and civic education. The document also contains a copy of the New Constitution of the Congo.
