A new report from International Foundation for Electoral Systems’ (IFES), titled “Qualitative Assessment: Perceptions about Women’s Participation in Public Life in the Maldives,” examines the root causes of negative perceptions toward women in decision-making roles in the Maldives, including broader societal attitudes toward gender equality and women’s empowerment.

Money and Elections in the Maldives
IFES conducted the first systematic nationwide survey of its kind in the Maldives. The survey was conducted to measure the prevalence of vote buying in the Maldives during the March 2014 parliamentary elections. The final report, Money and Election in Maldives: Perceptions and Reality, will be shared with the Government, the Parliament, the Election Commission, civil society, political parties and others.

New Study Provides Insight into Electoral Access in Guatemala
Following Guatemala’s 2011 elections, IFES conducted focus groups with persons with disabilities, in-depth interviews with leaders of disabled persons organizations and a small-scale survey of electoral authorities to learn about the experience of persons with disabilities in the elections process. Assessment of Election Access Barriers in Guatemala presents key findings of these research activities. Together, the responses provide a snapshot of current practices in the Central American nation and serve as a powerful advocacy tool for promoting equal access.

In March 2012, IFES conducted a study in partnership with WANEP-CI, an Ivoirian organization that facilitates cooperation and information sharing among local organizations. This survey sought to gauge citizen opinions and perceptions of themes related to democracy, elections and institutions.
