Democracy Promotion is an American Tradition
In celebration of International Day of Democracy on September 15, the Presidents of IFES, the International Republican Institute and the National Democratic Institute, which together compose the Consortium for Electoral and Political Processes Strengthening, authored a joint op-ed. The authors argue that the U.S. should use its new position as the President of the Community of Democracies to rally greater international support for democracy and governance programming and discuss the U.S.’ bipartisan tradition of supporting democracy and human rights.

Controlling Campaign Finance in Tunisia
On March 24, 2016, the International Foundation for Electoral Systems (IFES), in collaboration with the Tunisian Court of Accounts and the Parliamentary Commission Responsible for Electoral Legislation, organized a workshop on the provisions of the draft amendments to the electoral code pertaining to campaign finance and its control. The workshop was supported by funding from the U.S. Department of State’s Middle East Partnership Initiative.

Voter Registration Teaching Manual Approved
On June 25, 2014, the Tunisian National Constituent Assembly adopted a law stipulating that parliamentary and first-round presidential elections will take place on October 26, 2014 and November 23, 2014 respectively. This ended months of speculation over the date of the next elections, and for the Tunisian people, this is a clear signal of the government’s preparedness to move forward with the democratic transition.

Tunisia’s Election Commission Releases Final Report on Historic 2014 Elections
On December 21, 2014, Tunisian citizens cast their ballots in the second round of the presidential elections; the third and final election of the 2014 electoral period. The first election was held on October 26, when citizens voted into office 217 members of a new Assembly of the Representatives of the People (ARP), a new permanent legislative body.
