Elections in Timor-Leste: 2017 Presidential Elections
On March 20, Timorese citizens will vote to elect their next president. Eight candidates will by vying for the presidency in this election. If no candidate receives at least 50 percent plus one of the valid votes in the first round, a second round will be held on April 20, 2017. The 2017 presidential election is the first national election to be managed by the National Election Commission and Technical Secretariat for Electoral Administration without substantial logistical support from the United Nations.

On August 8, 2018, the government of the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) announced that President Joseph Kabila will not be running during the country’s highly anticipated elections set for December 23, 2018. Combating Corruption in Central Africa
IFES is working with civil society organizations in the Democratic Republic of Congo and Burundi on two new anti-corruption projects. The projects train civil society groups and government institutions to investigate corruption, and provide forums in which citizens and politicians discuss serious issues. The end goal is to improve transparency and expose public trust violations.
