Improving Electoral Access in Pakistan
Article 29 of the Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities guarantees the rights of persons with disabilities to participate in political and public life on an equal basis with other citizens. The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) and the International Foundation for Electoral Systems (IFES) took on this important issue during the “Conference on the Inclusion of Persons with Disabilities in Electoral Processes” from September 3-4, 2014.

Election Commission of Pakistan Launches its Second Five-Year Strategic Plan (2014-2018)
Outlining 162 objectives grouped under 13 broader goals, the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) unveiled its Second Five-Year Strategic Plan (2014-2018) during a press conference in Islamabad on June 5, 2014. The new plan comes a year after the successful 2013 General Elections, which marked the first time in Pakistan’s history that one democratically elected government completed its full term and handed power over to another democratically elected government.

How is it Made? Voter Education Campaign Edition
Motivational voter education messages are instantly recognizable; they permeate the airwaves, and televisions in democratic countries, especially before an election. Most people only see the final product, but there is so much that goes into developing the message before it is broadcast on screens across the country. For anyone who has ever wondered, “how is it made?” here is a behind-the-scenes look at how the team at the IFES office in Pakistan created a campaign encouraging women to register for a computerized national identity card (CNIC) and register to vote.

IFES Congratulates Pakistan on Historic Transfer of Power
The International Foundation for Electoral Systems (IFES) congratulates Pakistan on its first transfer of power between two democratically elected civilian governments after completion of a full term. Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif and newly-elected members of the National Assembly were sworn in on June 1, 2013. Sharif officially takes office today, June 5, 2013.

In response to a recent study by Max Grömping entitled The Integrity of Elections in Asia: Policy Lessons from Expert Evaluations, IFES produced a briefing paper with some examples of policy lessons applied in practice across Asia. IFES has worked in Asia for the past three decades supporting election management bodies, civil society and other electoral stakeholders in their efforts to promote electoral integrity.
