A Snapshot of the 2013 Midterm Elections in the Philippines
The Philippines held midterm elections on May 13, 2013. These polls marked the second time a nationwide automated election system was used. In addition to fine-tuning the technology used during the election, the Philippine Commission on Elections (COMELEC) also implemented a continuous voter registration process and a general registration in the Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao. Health Crisis in West Africa Erodes Peace and Democratization Efforts
The International Foundation for Electoral Systems (IFES) is deeply concerned about the Ebola outbreak in West Africa. This health crisis has resulted in more than 1,350 reported deaths so far in a region that has been moving steadily toward peace and democratization. This outbreak of the Ebola virus has already killed more people than any other Ebola epidemic in history.
