Health Crisis in West Africa Erodes Peace and Democratization Efforts

Published
The International Foundation for Electoral Systems (IFES) is deeply concerned about the Ebola outbreak in West Africa. This health crisis has resulted in more than 1,350 reported deaths so far in a region that has been moving steadily toward peace and democratization. This outbreak of the Ebola virus has already killed more people than any other Ebola epidemic in history.

We call on our network of democracy supporters to consider making donations to organizations that are fighting the deadly virus in West Africa and leading emergency response efforts: Doctors Without Borders/Médecins Sans Frontières (MSF), Last Mile Health and Samaritan’s Purse.

Let’s not forget that the democratic and social development gains realized in West Africa can be easily eroded by the Ebola virus if resources are not brought in to support local infrastructure. Your generous support will help contain the epidemic that is spreading in Guinea, Liberia and Sierra Leone.
