Hack4Democracy Supports Tunisian Youth Civic Engagement
Tunisian youth played a significant role in the lead up to the 2011 revolution. Despite being at the forefront, many young Tunisians now feel that the gains of the revolution were stolen from them, with the older generation benefitting while youth remain politically and economically marginalized. IFES and the Tunisian Youth Forum are working to transform Tunisian youth’s online engagement into active civic engagement through an innovative new initiative called Hack4Democracy camps.

Partnership with Libyan Ministry of Education to Promote Civic Education in Public Schools
On August 4, 2018, IFES and the Libyan Ministry of Education (MoE) celebrated the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) aimed at underpinning future cooperation in Libya. The MoU is the latest culmination of a fruitful cooperation between IFES and the MoE toward developing and introducing a broad curriculum of civic education in public schools in Libya.

Building Intersectional Coalitions to Address Discrimination and Violence in Lebanon

Libya Pilots New Civic Education Curriculum for Students
From March 1 to 4, IFES worked with Libya’s Ministry of Education to train more than 30 Libyan teachers across the country to use and implement a new civic education curriculum for students in grades 7-9. In April, the pilot was successfully launched in 25 schools in 14 cities across Libya, and a nation-wide rollout is anticipated for the 2018/9 school year.

Bilel Mansouri: From H4D Participant to Change Maker
To address a growing lack of civic engagement among Tunisian youth, IFES launched an original initiative called Hack4Democracy (H4D) in Tunisia, a combination of democracy camps and hackathons. Bilel Mansouri used his experience in a H4D camp and applied what he had learned to create Detecti, a mobile and web application, and start Jeunes Actifs, a civil society organization.

Technological Innovation at the Service of Youth Engagement
To address a growing lack of civic engagement among Tunisian youth, IFES launched an original initiative called Hack4Democracy (H4D) in Tunisia, a combination of democracy camps and hackathons, putting the latest technological advances at the service of youth engagement. Photo Gallery: Awakening the Next Generation of Tunisian Voters
To address a lack of civic education in Tunisian schools and create an informed and civic-minded future generation, IFES developed the Democratic Awakening Toolkit. IFES produced 1,500 toolkits, which are comprised of a teaching manual, pedagogical resources and reusable materials to simulate voting in classrooms, for a pilot program in September 2018.
