A Snapshot of the 2013 Midterm Elections in the Philippines
The Philippines held midterm elections on May 13, 2013. These polls marked the second time a nationwide automated election system was used. In addition to fine-tuning the technology used during the election, the Philippine Commission on Elections (COMELEC) also implemented a continuous voter registration process and a general registration in the Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao. EVER Project Warns of Potential for New Violence
A new report from the Election Violence Education and Resolution or EVER project warns that the results of Timor-Leste’s parliamentary vote, and debate over the right to form a government, could trigger more election-related violence. The EVER team issued its second report today, indicating a 30 percent increase in election-related incidents over the first reporting period.
