IFES Remembers Board Secretary Leon J. Weil
The Board of Directors and staff of the International Foundation for Electoral Systems (IFES) are saddened by the death of The Honorable Leon J. Weil. Weil joined IFES’ Board of Directors in 1994, and served as its Secretary from the late 1990s until his death.

IFES Trains NEC Gender Section in Liberia on Disability Rights
With the support of the United States Agency for International Development, IFES has worked closely with the National Elections Commission of Liberia (NEC) over the past several years to build its capacity to conduct credible and inclusive elections. As part of this work, IFES is providing the NEC Gender Section with technical support on the inclusion of marginalized groups, such as persons with disabilities and women.

Celebrating IFES’ 30th Anniversary in Sri Lanka and Nepal
On January 27, IFES held an anniversary reception in Kathmandu, Nepal, where Sweeney welcomed current and former members of the Election Commission of Nepal, civil society, and representatives of the donor community. IFES has worked in Nepal since 1999, a period that included the 2006 end to a decade-long civil war, groundbreaking Constituent Assembly elections in 2008 and 2013, and the establishment of a new constitution in 2015.
