IFES and the IEC Conduct a BRIDGE “Train the Facilitator” Workshop

Published

The International Foundation for Electoral Systems (IFES) and the Jordanian Independent Electoral Commission (IEC) conducted a “Train the Facilitator” (TtF) workshop in Amman from May 27 to June 7, 2014. As part of IFES’s long-term goal of building the IEC into an effective and self-sustaining institution in Jordan and a model for regional electoral commissions, IFES worked with the Commission on the creation of a comprehensive professional development program. One of the main goals of this program is the training of a core group of accredited Building Resources in Democracy, Governance and Elections (BRIDGE) facilitators. This workshop is a key step in training the personnel and achieving IFES goal.

With support from internationally recognized BRIDGE expert facilitators Ossama Kamel and Natia Kashakashvili, and in collaboration with IFES Chief of Party Hermann Thiel and Deputy Chief of Party Sarah Utaibi, the TtF workshop was simultaneously conducted in Arabic and English for 22 participants.

The participants were introduced to a variety of topics regarding election law and structure. At the end of the course, all 22 participants were certified as semi-accredited BRIDGE facilitators. The next step in the process is for the participants to plan a curriculum and facilitate a BRIDGE workshop with the assistance of IFES’s fully accredited facilitators.
