IFES Survey Examines Priorities for Gender Advocacy in Armenia
IFES’ Applied Research Center (ARC) conducted a global survey of practitioners in gender equality and women’s empowerment in 40 countries where IFES is active. The survey identifies key issues and challenges affecting women and girls and examines priorities for advocacy on gender issues. The survey also assesses the effectiveness of women’s organizations and their capacity-building needs to improve future gender program interventions.

Description: Does African dependence on foreign aid undermine the evolution of representative institutions? Using cross-national data and public opinion data, Olufunmbi M. Elemo, a PhD candidate in political science at Michigan State University and a Manatt fellow, shows that as government aid dependence increases, perceptions of political efficacy and access to public services diminishes across Africa.

Public Attitude Towards Political Life Electoral Experience Confidence in Leadership and Civic Participation in Armenia
This report details a series of IFES conducted focus groups from May 2000. The aim of the focus groups centered on how ordinary Armenians felt about their leaders and institutions, their confidence in the electoral process, and their overall perceptions of the political and economic situation in Armenia. This research was conducted in the hopes that it would help aid organizations identify areas of greatest concern and need in the process of democratic development in Armenia.

“Test Your Civic Imagination” is an article that appeared in the October 19, 2000 edition of “The Christian Science Monitor.” The piece focuses on civic participation in that year’s presidential election and urges American’s to vote and reverse the trend of low voter participation. Also included is an article titled “The Joy of Voting.” This article provides one citizen’s anecdote as to why they think voting is valuable. These articles were released in lead up to the November 7, 2000 presidential election between George W. Bush and Al Gore.

“Democratic Party Platform 2000” is a 2000 Democratic Platform survey sample prepared for Mrs. Romila Sodhir by the Democratic National Committee. This report summarizes the findings from a nation-wide IFES conducted survey in Armenia in 1996. The questionnaire covered a multitude of subjects including Armenian views towards NGOs, political parties, political institutions and officials and past voting experience. The ultimate goal of the survey was to collect information regarding Armenians views on issues of democracy.
