On Sunday, January 10, Kyrgyzstan's voters will go to the polls for an early presidential election. Kyrgyzstan is in the midst of a political crisis, following the October 2020 parliamentary elections. Those elections resulted in mass protests, the invalidation of the election results and the resignation of President Sooronbai Jeenbekov and provoked significant legislative changes.

Last month, 60 members of Parliament also voted to hold a referendum on the preferred form of government on the same day as the early presidential election, a move that has been criticized by the international community.
