November 2013 Elections in Mali and Mauritania: Frequently Asked Questions

All eyes will be on western Africa for the first rounds of key legislative elections in Mauritania on November 23 and in Mali on November 24. In Mauritania, citizens are voting for 147 deputies who will sit in the National Assembly for the five next years. In Mali, polls will determine the country's new National Assembly in the first legislative election since a March 2012 coup d'état halted electoral activities.

Both nations will look to manage complex Election Day security situations. In addition to Mali's regular security forces, the United Nations and French troops will help secure northern regions on Election Day.
