New Assessment on Violence Against Women in Elections in the Autonomous Region of Bougainville
While women in Bougainville have greater access to politics and decision-making than their counterparts in other parts of Papua New Guinea (PNG), they still face significant challenges as they seek to participate in the electoral process. A new report from IFES assesses violence against Bougainvillean women in elections, drawing on fieldwork, research and IFES’ experiences operating in Bougainville.

Bougainville Election Commission Launches Strategic Plan
Throughout 2018, IFES advisors guided the Office of the Bougainville Electoral Commissioner in developing and writing its 2018-2022 Strategic Plan. Ending Impunity for Violence Against Women in Elections in Zimbabwe
Earlier this year, IFES research in Zimbabwe found that women engaging in elections as candidates, voters and journalists were experiencing devastating sexual extortion, physical violence, harassment and intimidation from their bosses, colleagues, religious leaders and domestic partners, both in physical and online forms. In response, IFES and local Zimbabwean partners launched an initiative to end impunity for violence against women in elections.
