Empowering Women Advocates with Disabilities and Journalists to Create Inclusive, Accessible Media
Last month, IFES and the Nepal Disabled Women Association trained women advocates with disabilities and journalists on rights-based reporting techniques for elections and democratic processes. Such trainings build valuable skills and encourage best practices for inclusive media so that people with disabilities can be represented in media on an equal basis as others.

IFES conducted a study of women’s political representation and political finance in Nepal’s House of Representatives elections in 2017. IFES hopes the resulting report sparks discussions on the critical need for reforms and capacity building ahead of the next general elections in Nepal in 2022.

Ethiopia Holds Referendum to Determine Statehood for Sidama Zone
Residents of Ethiopia's Sidama Zone voted in a referendum for regional autonomy on November 20. With results demonstrating that approximately 98.5 percent voted in support of statehood, Sidama will be the first new state since the establishment of the current nine-state federation in the 1990s.

Selma Votes in Tunisia
As part of an effort to enfranchise illiterate women residing in rural areas to hold their government accountable, IFES partnered with USAID and the Tunisian Mediterranean Center to train and deploy women ambassadors in governorates with the highest illiteracy rates. These civic education ambassadors then encouraged women like Selma Sbissi, featured in a USAID video, to register and vote in the 2018 municipal elections.
