Paving the Way for Inclusive Elections in Zimbabwe
In 2009, Zimbabwe formed a Government of National Unity to overcome a political impasse. One of this government’s main tasks is to draft a new constitution for the country that will determine, among other things, the country’s electoral framework. IFES Observes Voting on First Nations Reserves in Saskatchewan, Canada
On April 4, 2016, voters in Saskatchewan, Canada went to the polls to elect 61 Members of the Legislative Assembly (MLA) to represent their constituencies on the provincial level. IFES was invited by Elections SK to observe voting in new polling stations on First Nations reserves outside of Regina, the province’s capital, and La Ronge, a community in central Saskatchewan.

Increasing Election Access for Saskatchewan Citizens with Disabilities
Saskatchewan, a large prairie province in central Canada, is home to more than 180,000 persons with disabilities. Elections Saskatchewan – which is responsible for managing the province’s elections – used feedback from disability rights organizations, the International Foundation for Electoral Systems (IFES) and the Johnson-Shoyama Graduate School of Public Policy to improve election accessibility for voters with disabilities in the province’s 28th general election, which occurred on April 4, 2016.

Ending Impunity for Violence Against Women in Elections in Zimbabwe
Earlier this year, IFES research in Zimbabwe found that women engaging in elections as candidates, voters and journalists were experiencing devastating sexual extortion, physical violence, harassment and intimidation from their bosses, colleagues, religious leaders and domestic partners, both in physical and online forms. In response, IFES and local Zimbabwean partners launched an initiative to end impunity for violence against women in elections.

Partnering to Implement International Anti-Corruption Commitments
Last month, IFES participated in the Eighth Conference of States Parties to the United Nations Convention Against Corruption in Abu Dhabi.
