Partnership with Libyan Ministry of Education to Promote Civic Education in Public Schools
On August 4, 2018, IFES and the Libyan Ministry of Education (MoE) celebrated the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) aimed at underpinning future cooperation in Libya. The MoU is the latest culmination of a fruitful cooperation between IFES and the MoE toward developing and introducing a broad curriculum of civic education in public schools in Libya.

Breaking Barriers, Building Access: Creating a Culture of Inclusion in Kyrgyzstan
In an effort to increase civic participation among marginalized groups in Kyrgyzstan, in February 2018, IFES organized a contest for persons with disabilities, which provided them with an opportunity to design a project or activity that will increase access to decision-making processes. Aiperi, a participant from disabled people’s organization Nazik Kyz (“Tender Girl”), was awarded a small grant to make her project a reality.

Nurturing Democracy in the Maldives
In June, The International Foundation for Electoral Systems (IFES) held a “Democracy Camp” for 40 youths, aged 14-16, from around the country.The primary goal of the camp is to enhance the participants’ knowledge on civic education, rights and responsibilities of a citizen, democracy, human rights and other pressing social issues. Fostering Democracy Through Education
The recently published Best Practices Manual on Democracy Education by the Council for a Community of Democracies provides a myriad of examples and case studies of democracy education programs for countries at all stages of development and transition. IFES hosted this event featuring two of the manual's authors as well as other democracy-promotion experts for a conversation on how best to empower citizens to become informed and take part in their government.
