Bougainville Election Commission Launches Strategic Plan
Throughout 2018, IFES advisors guided the Office of the Bougainville Electoral Commissioner in developing and writing its 2018-2022 Strategic Plan. The plan, launched in November, sets out a vision for OBEC to become an independent, competent and transparent electoral body that can organize inclusive, credible elections.

Celebrating International Women’s Day 2019 in Papua New Guinea
IFES celebrated International Women’s Day 2019 with counterparts in Port Moresby and the Autonomous Region of Bougainville, Papua New Guinea. The Port Moresby-based Papua New Guinea Electoral Commission hosted a celebration and luncheon, and the IFES team in Bougainville joined local civil society organizations and other partners on a peace march through Buka Town.

Increasing Election Access for Saskatchewan Citizens with Disabilities
Saskatchewan, a large prairie province in central Canada, is home to more than 180,000 persons with disabilities. Elections Saskatchewan – which is responsible for managing the province’s elections – used feedback from disability rights organizations, the International Foundation for Electoral Systems (IFES) and the Johnson-Shoyama Graduate School of Public Policy to improve election accessibility for voters with disabilities in the province’s 28th general election, which occurred on April 4, 2016.

Accessible Facilities: How to Make Voting More Accessible
“Accessible Facilities: How to Make Voting more Accessible” is a guide from 1996, available in a French and English copy, meant to help election officials make the polling sites more accessible to handicapped voters so they may vote in the upcoming Federal Elections. The document, published by Elections Canada, gives advice on how to make the sites more accessible by setting up ramps, special parking and adapted doors and entrances.
