Manatt Fellow Presents on Election Dispute Resolution in Africa

Elections in Côte d’Ivoire: 2016 Legislative Elections
On December 18, Ivoirian voters will elect 255 members of the National Assembly, the lower house of Parliament. Following the approval of a new constitution via an October 2016 referendum, National Assembly members will be elected for four-year terms instead of five, as was previously the case.

Elections in Uganda: 2016 General Elections
On February 18, Ugandans will vote for President, 290 Members of Parliament who are directly elected to represent 290 constituencies, as well as 112 District Women Members of Parliament. A presidential candidate must receive 50 percent plus one vote to avoid a run-off election. Members of Parliament are elected in single-member constituencies through a simple majority system.

Cote d’Ivoire’s Peaceful Parliamentary Elections
Cote d'Ivoire held the first legislative elections in more than a decade on Sunday, December 11. These elections will usher in the first democratically elected parliament since 2005, when the mandate of the one elected in 2000 expired.
