Photo Gallery: Pacific Women with Disabilities Empowered to Advocate with Government Officials
IFES partnered with the Pacific Disability Forum to train 15 women with a diverse range of disabilities in September 2019 as part of the “Power to Persuade” program. The training enhanced participants’ public speaking and advocacy skills and provided a platform to share their work, highlight best practices and discuss lessons learned.

On the Hill: Electoral Preparations in the Democratic Republic of Congo
On August 8, 2018, the government of the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) announced that President Joseph Kabila will not be running during the country’s highly anticipated elections set for December 23, 2018. A week prior to the announcement, Senator Christopher Coons (D-Del.) hosted a briefing on Capitol Hill to discuss electoral preparations in the DRC.

Reporting on Elections Accurately and Impartially: Training for Journalists in Fiji
As Fiji prepares to hold its next general elections, strengthening the accuracy of election reporting and promoting informed electoral analyses is a critical priority. From February 20-22, 2018, at the invitation of the Fijian Election Office and the Media Industry Development Authority, IFES facilitated a workshop for journalists on importance of reporting on elections accurately and impartially throughout the election cycle.

On February 12, IFES Africa Director Rushdi Nackerdien briefed the United Nations Security Council during an Arria Formula Meeting on “The Electoral Process in the Democratic Republic of the Congo.” He was invited to speak to the electoral calendar, progress and challenges to the electoral cycle, and the potential implementation of electronic voting machines.
