Young Nepali Leaders Advocate for Enfranchisement of Young Voters in the 2022 Elections
Through advocacy efforts led by IFES' partner, the Association of Youth Organizations Nepal (AYON), an estimated 200,000 young people will now have the opportunity to vote in the upcoming local elections in Nepal.

Mobilizing Illiterate Tunisian Women Living in Rural Areas for the May 6 Municipal Elections
IFES' partner, the Tunisian Mediterranean Center (TU-MED), found that 83 percent of rural Tunisian women said they did not vote during the 2014 national elections. Due to these findings, IFES and TU-MED launched several outreach campaigns in 2017 targeting illiterate women living in rural areas. IFES trained 286 female outreach ambassadors to engage in face-to-face dialogue regarding the electoral process and the importance of decentralization. The ambassadors reached 7,680 women, encouraging them to register to vote in municipal elections scheduled for May 6, 2018.

Robust Multimedia Campaign Supports Liberia's Pivotal 2017 Elections
Conducting elections in Liberia is a challenging endeavor. Along with a lack of basic transportation and communications infrastructure, over half the population (53%) is illiterate. As such, civic and voter awareness campaigns cannot be conducted through many traditional mediums like print media. In partnership with the National Elections Commission and 27 grassroots civil society organizations (CSOs) in all 15 counties of the country, the IFES Liberia team developed a creative and compelling voter education and awareness campaign.

Two compelling photographs depicting insightful moments of Election Day in India and voter registration in Nepal have won the top prizes of the International Foundation for Electoral Systems’ (IFES) 2016 Photography Contest. They were part of 10 photographs selected as finalists among the more than 100 images that were submitted to the democracy-themed competition.

Registering Marginalized Populations to Vote in Nepal
As Nepal undergoes critical electoral and governance changes, IFES Nepal is working with local partners to register Nepalis – including Dalits, youth, Muslim women, freed Kamaiya (those subjected to forced labor) and other historically marginalized groups – to vote. This is part of IFES Nepal’s efforts to ensure that all Nepalis are able to participate actively in Nepal’s evolving political process.

Voter Registration Teaching Manual Approved
On June 25, 2014, the Tunisian National Constituent Assembly adopted a law stipulating that parliamentary and first-round presidential elections will take place on October 26, 2014 and November 23, 2014 respectively. This ended months of speculation over the date of the next elections, and for the Tunisian people, this is a clear signal of the government’s preparedness to move forward with the democratic transition.

IFES Supports Liberia's 2014 Voter Registration Update
In the first quarter of 2011, the National Elections Commission (NEC) – with IFES support – conducted a nationwide voter registration drive to compile a voter register that was used for the 2011 referendum and all subsequent elections.

Tunisia Voter Registration & Voter Confidence Assessment Survey
Tunisia, the country that sparked the pro-democracy revolts across the Middle East and North Africa, is currently scheduled to hold elections for Constituent Assembly in July. IFES conducted a nationwide survey in late March and early April to gain insight into the citizenry’s expectations for these elections, the readiness of the electorate, and the general confidence in the elections process. The data provides powerful indicators of where Tunisians stand before the election.

Sierra Leone Votes in National Elections
Presidential and Parliamentary Elections were held in Sierra Leone on August 11, 2007. National and International Election Observers were present to monitor the vote for free and fair results. Despite bad weather, citizens arrived early, and eagerly voted within the regulated precincts.
