IFES Signs Global Disability Summit Charter for Change
On July 24, the United Kingdom Department for International Development, the International Disability Alliance and the Government of Kenya will host the first-ever Global Disability Summit. IFES, represented by IFES President Bill Sweeney, will participate and has signed the Charter for Change, the summit’s principal legacy document outlining actions that must be taken to ensure the rights, freedoms, dignity and inclusion for all persons with disabilities.

Libya Pilots New Civic Education Curriculum for Students
From March 1 to 4, IFES worked with Libya’s Ministry of Education to train more than 30 Libyan teachers across the country to use and implement a new civic education curriculum for students in grades 7-9. In April, the pilot was successfully launched in 25 schools in 14 cities across Libya, and a nation-wide rollout is anticipated for the 2018/9 school year.

Countering Communal Incitement and Hate Speech in Indonesia
As Indonesia enters now a contentious election period consisting of regional elections in June 2018 and national elections in April 2019, it is important that election stakeholders are brought together to discuss and coordinate efforts to tackle these issues. On January 11, IFES held a roundtable on countering hate speech and community incitement in elections in Jakarta.

Survey Reveals Libyans Eager to Participate in Elections, Worried about their Country’s Situation
In 2017, IFES – with the support of USAID – conducted a nationwide household survey in Libya on citizens’ intentions to vote and engage in future electoral events in the Libyan transition. The survey findings are currently being used to identify priorities and enable IFES, the High National Elections Commission (HNEC), and other national and international stakeholders to more effectively increase public knowledge of, and engagement in, Libyan political and electoral processes.
