The Philippines Registers for Local Elections
Following the presidential and legislative elections held in May, the Philippines will hold local elections on October 25, 2010. In these elections, Filipinos will vote for Barangay (village) and SK (youth council) representatives. Registration for these elections took place in August throughout the country. During the registration process, the registrants’ digital photo, thumbprints and digital signature are taken by the data-capturing machines or “DCMs”. The thumbprints are later used to conduct an automated fingerprint identification system (AFIS) to find matches or “duplicate registrants” in order to avoid having voters cast more than two ballots on Election Day. These images capture the registration process in the Manila metropolitan area.

Innovating in Response to COVID-19 Moves Cybersecurity Forward in Georgia
On March 31, the International Foundation for Electoral System (IFES) held a virtual signing ceremony in partnership with the Georgian Central Election Commission (CEC), information technology vendor UGT and the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) to launch cybersecurity enhancements to protect Georgia’s elections from malign influence. Shifting the signing ceremony to a virtual format capped off IFES’ efforts to innovate in the face of the global COVID-19 crisis.

European Election Management Bodies Participate in Second Electoral Technology and Cyber-Hygiene Course
Following the success of its June 2019 pilot course, IFES welcomed 12 election management body representatives for its second iteration of the Electoral Technology and Cyber-Hygiene course. Participants spent four days learning the use of technology in elections, how to integrate safe cyber behavior into their work and how to mitigate online harassment and violence against women in elections.
