Photo Gallery: Pacific Women with Disabilities Empowered to Advocate with Government Officials
IFES partnered with the Pacific Disability Forum to train 15 women with a diverse range of disabilities in September 2019 as part of the “Power to Persuade” program. The training enhanced participants’ public speaking and advocacy skills and provided a platform to share their work, highlight best practices and discuss lessons learned.

Bougainville Referendum Results Announced
Voting in the Bougainville referendum concluded with the announcement of results on December 11. A majority of voters selected independence, at 97.7 percent of the vote. While the referendum is not outcome-determining, the results will contribute to bilateral negotiations between the Autonomous Bougainville Government and Papua New Guinea Government.

Beyond Constitutional Reform to Elections: Libya Electoral Legal Framework Analysis
Libya has since been undergoing a democratic transition since protests erupted in February 2011, and the legal framework for elections has been extremely fragmented throughout the transitional period. An analysis from IFES considers the foundations for future elections and what can be done to strengthen the legal framework on which Libyan democracy rests.

Marking International Day of Democracy 2019
Since 2007 when the United Nations General Assembly designated September 15th as the International Day of Democracy, organizations – governmental and nongovernmental – have joined with others to commemorate the importance of promoting and upholding principles of democracy. On this day, we lift our voices with other like-minded supporters of human freedom and dignity to raise public awareness about the power that citizens have to determine by whom, and how, they are governed.
