Online Training Launched to Engage Pakistani Women with Disabilities in Public Policy Reform
The “Power to Persuade” training builds the skills of women with disabilities to advocate with policymakers, elected officials and other political powerbrokers for reform. In response to COVID-19, IFES adapted its training methodology for online implementation in Pakistan in July 2020.

From Prey Veng Province to the Big Apple
On June 11, "She Leads" alumna Chanthy Hoy spoke on a side panel at the United Nations Conference of States Parties to the Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities. "She Leads" Women’s Leadership Program Piloted in Nepal
IFES, in partnership with the Center for Dalit Women Nepal, is introducing its flagship women’s leadership program “She Leads” to Nepal. Over the next four years, through a modular training program, a diverse group of women will develop the leadership and technical skills to help them fulfill their roles as elected representatives.

“She Leads” Alumnae Launch New Women’s Community Organization in Myanmar
“She Leads” is a nationwide women’s leadership program developed by IFES and its Myanmar partner Yaung Chi Thit (YCT). The program works to address the lack of women’s leadership in politics and decision-making processes at all levels of state and society. “She Leads” includes both beginner and intermediary-level trainings and has trained over 1,000 women across Myanmar.

India’s 37 Million “Missing Women”
As part of its U.S. Agency for International Development-funded Women’s Legal Rights Initiative in India, IFES launched the “Dignity of the Girl Child” campaign to address sex selection, infanticide and neglect of the girl-child. IFES’ campaign combined research and advocacy with targeted community-based interventions to sensitize and mobilize district and local administrators, the legal community, civil society, and the public on the need to value the life of the girl-child. It also engaged men as program allies and key decision makers.

A Multi-Stakeholder Approach to Addressing Violence Against Women in Elections
Sri Lanka looks to hold local government elections in early 2018, which will introduce thousands of new women leaders as the country implements its first-ever women’s quota. There is a critical need to mitigate violence against women in elections (VAWIE). To address this need, IFES is working with the Election Commission and civil society partners to implement a series of initiatives that aim to engage a diverse group of electoral stakeholders in comprehensively addressing election violence against women.

The Principles of Election Reporting
Sri Lanka’s upcoming local government election will introduce numerous changes to the electoral system. The public will need to be informed of these changes in a balanced, impartial and fair manner. To meet this need, on January 8 and 9, IFES organized a two-day media training on principles of election reporting for 37 journalists from Sinhalese, Tamil and Muslim communities from across the country.

She Leads: Empowering Female Candidates Ahead of Local Elections in Sri Lanka
Ahead of Sri Lanka's February 2018 local government election, IFES carried out a women’s leadership program, She Leads SL, that equipped 458 Sinhalese, Tamil and Muslim women with practical campaign skills including fundraising, networking and coalition building, campaign messaging, social media use, public speaking, and development of personal campaign action plans. As a result of the She Leads SL training, nearly 43 percent of alumnae participated as candidates in the 2018 local government elections, utilizing skills gained from the training to elevate their campaigns.

To commemorate International Women’s Day in Indonesia, IFES, the International Republican Institute and the Association for Elections and Democracy hosted “Women’s Challenges in a Political Year” – a public discussion aiming to motivate and unite leaders and communities to think, act and be gender inclusive.
